Hello! I can't figure out how to message you privately (I don't use Substack very much, but clicking the "send message" button led to "Page not found"), but you asked folks to send suggestions for people to interview. Have you ever spoken to David Shi? He taught a couple of great classes at Harvest Gathering (a festival in Connecticut) this summer about his tradition of Shamanism, and wrote the book "North Asian Shamanism," and I think would be a great person to interview. (His instagram is here: https://www.instagram.com/davidjshi311/?hl=en . It looks like he is also teaching a couple of classes at Sacred Spaces this year, so if you haven't met him yet, you might get to speak to him there.) Edward Butler is a Polytheist and Ph.D. in Philosophy. as well as the Director for the Center for Polytheism Studies at Indic Academy. I'm in a course he's teaching on late Platonist philosophy from a Polytheist perspective. He speaks beautifully about devotion in snippets here and there, and I would love to hear him talk more about his personal relationships with the Gods. At some point, if it interested you, I would love to hear an interview with a monastic Polytheist, too. John Beckett interviewed several people for his class and could get you in touch, and I know a couple of people, too, but I feel like this is the longest comment in the world already, so I'll share that information if you ask for it. Thank you so much for what you do! I love this podcast and think it's really important work.
Hello, Marybeth! Thank you for reaching out. I’m sorry about the bad link. I will see about fixing that today.
Thank you for the recommendations. I have not met or spoken with David Shi or Edward Butler, but both have been on my radar. I’m currently reading Dr. Butler Way of the Gods and enjoying it. I will reach out to John Beckett about any contact about monastic polytheism, too.
If you wish to recommend anyone else or contact me again, feel free to email me at polytheismtoday(at)gmail(dot)com.
I’m glad that you are enjoying the podcast! It is a labor of love, curiosity, and resistance.
